How to Customize Your Template: Step-by-Step Instructions

We're diving into the details of customizing your PowerPoint template to align perfectly with your brand. Whether you're tweaking colors, fonts, logos, or footers, this guide will walk you through every step to ensure a seamless and professional-looking deck. Let's get started!

Updating Colors

Updating the colors in your PowerPoint template can make a big difference in maintaining brand consistency. You have two primary methods to choose from: manually updating each color or using a Color Palette Add-On.

How to Update Colors Manually

  1. Open Slide Master: Navigate to View > Slide Master.
  2. Change Colors: Click on Colors at the top and manually update each color by selecting More Colors to customize the RGB or Hex code. Once done, give your new color palette a name and click Save.
  3. Normal View Check: Go to Normal View and inspect the Theme Colors page. The top section will update automatically, but the screenshot and contextual colors may need manual updates.

How to Update Colors Automatically

For a quicker update, you can download a Color Palette Add-On.

  1. Download and Install: Get a color palette add-on from Insights Template Shop. Check out the tutorial on How to Install Color Palette XML Files into PowerPoint.
  2. Apply New Palette: Go to Slide Master > Colors and choose your newly installed color palette.
  3. Normal View Check: Switch to Normal View to see the changes across your template.

Customizing Fonts

Fonts are a crucial part of your presentation’s look. Here's how to update them for a consistent, professional appearance.

  1. Open Slide Master: Navigate to View > Slide Master.
  2. Change Fonts: Click on Fonts and choose Customize Fonts to alter both heading and body fonts.

Note for Mac Users: Customizing fonts requires installing an XML file. Refer to our guide on How to Customize Fonts on macOS.

  1. Save and Check: Give the updated theme a name, save it, and then check the template in Normal View. The text boxes on the Fonts Required to Use This Template page will update automatically, but screenshots will need manual updating.

Updating the Logo

Slide Master Logo

  1. Open Slide Master: Navigate to View > Slide Master.
  2. Replace Placeholder Logo: Click on the Slidedesigner logo in the top-right corner, then go to Picture Format > Change Picture > This Device and upload your logo.
  3. Fit Logo: Use the Crop > Fill or Fit options to adjust your logo within the placeholder.

Custom Layout Logos

Some slides have logos overlaid on images or color backgrounds. Here’s how to update those:

  1. Update Custom Layouts: Go to the specific layout in the Slide Master, click on the logo placeholder, and replace it with your logo.
  2. Adjust Logos: For slides with photos, you can choose to use either the colored or white (knockout) version of your logo. To adjust the position of the logo to match the one on the example, go to Format Object > Position to enter the exact X,Y coordinates.

Remember to use high-resolution PNG or SVG files for your logos to avoid pixelation.

Customizing Footers and Company Name

The footers in your template should reflect your company’s name, URL, and any other identifiers.

  1. Open Slide Master: Navigate to View > Slide Master.
  2. Update Footers: Go to Insert > Header & Footer. Set Date and Time to Fixed to use this text footers as a secondary footer for question text, confidentiality, or anything else you might need in your template.
  3. Apply Changes: Update the company URL and other information. Click Apply to All, then verify changes in Normal View.
  4. On the Title slides, change names, company names, and email addresses.
  5. On the CTA slide, update your email address and booking link if you have one.

By following these steps, you'll transform your PowerPoint template to reflect your brand’s identity. Go forth and create compelling, consistent slides that impress your audience.
